The sun was shining on Hummer Sports Park Friday night, helping Topeka area high school track and field athletes kick it up a notch for the Topeka West Joe Schrag Invitational.
Among the multiple winners was Topeka High's Raianna Maples. She holds the state's best times in the 100 and 200 this season and she took both of those titles Friday night. She also joined her teammates to win the 4x100 relay. Their time of 48.06 is a new state-best on the season, beating their own previous fastest time.
Also a double winner was Seaman's Joe Reagan. Back from a couple week's rest for a hamstring injury, he won the 100 and 200 titles. His 200 time of 21.76 puts him atop the state leaderboard in the event. He already held the state-best for the year in the 100.
Hayden's Mary Kate Franklin took home two golds as well, winning the 1600 and the 800. Plus, Seaman's Tatyana Legette swept the girls' hurdle races.
Shawnee Heights' girls edged Topeka High for the team title, 149 to 145.5. On the boys' side, Topeka High held off Seaman, 159 to 151.
