KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Abby Wittman was named the MIAA specialist of the week and Marissa Cox was named hitter of the week as the conference office announced its weekly awards Monday.
Wittman averaged 11.72 assists and 3.50 digs a set as Washburn went 4-1 last week. She reached at least 30 assists in each match and had double-doubles in three of the matches as she reached double-figure digs. She had 52 assists and 17 digs in a five-set win over Harding on Saturday. Wittman also averaged 0.39 blocks a set and had eight kills in the five matches.
Cox averaged 4.22 kills a set and hit .383 last week. She hit .409 with 11 kills in Washburn's sweep at Emporia State in the MIAA opener Tuesday. Saturday against Dallas Baptist she hit .500 with 10 kills in a sweep. She reached 24 kills in a five-set win over Harding. She added 0.56 blocks a set and 1.22 digs during the week.
The Ichabods (10-3, 1-0 MIAA) will play their home opener Tuesday against Northwest Missouri State at Schendel Court in Lee Arena at 7 p.m. They'll then return to the road for two MIAA matches this weekend.
