Wildcats Race Past Coyotes, 70-50

MANHATTAN, Kan. – A career-high 16 points by Nino Williams helped No.25 Kansas State finish its non-conference schedule with a 70-50 win over South Dakota on Monday afternoon.

For the second game in a row, the Wildcats (11-2) jumped out to a quick lead, taking a 13-2 advantage in the first five minutes. A steal and a dunk by Omari Lawrence gave the Wildcats a highlight moment and pushed the score to 19-8 in favor of the Wildcats. K-State led by as many as 16 in the opening half and took a 30-18 lead into the break. Rodney McGruder led the Wildcats in the first half with eight points and six rebounds.

The opening of the second half saw K-State struggle, allowing the Coyotes (6-9) to cut the lead to six points. After two free throws by South Dakota’s Karim Rowson made the score 44-39, K-State used a 12-0 run to put the game away. The run was highlighted by Shane Southwell, who scored seven straight during the run. Southwell finished the afternoon with 12 points and tied his career-high of six assists. McGruder chipped in 15 and led with nine rebounds. Will Spradling added 11 points and six assists.

K-State opens Big 12 Conference play on Saturday, as the team hosts Oklahoma State. The game is set for a 12:30 p.m. tip and will be broadcast live on the Big 12 Network. It will be a Wildcat Weekend at Bramlage Coliseum with the women’s team hosting TCU at 6 p.m. Fans can get into the women’s game for just $3 when showing their ticket to the men’s game against Oklahoma State.
