IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Kansas State women's golf team finished ninth with a three-round team score of 74-over par 938 following the final round of the Diane Thomason Invitational at the par-72, 6,212 yard Finkbine Gold Course.
Individually, the Wildcats were paced by senior Gianna Misenhelter and sophomore Scotland Preston who both finished the tournament tied for 21st with a 15-over par 231. Pacing the Wildcats for the first time this season, both Misenhelter and Preston improved their stroke average to lead the Wildcats to a 28-21-1 record on the year.
“We did our best today but we were not sharp enough around the greens to move up the leaderboard,” head coach Kristi Knight said. “All we can do is continue to make efforts to improve and turn those bogeys into birdies.”
Junior Carly Ragains moved up 10 positions in Sunday’s final round to finish in a tie for 33rd place with a 19-over par 235, but was unable to finish inside the top-20 for the first time this season.
Rounding out the scoring lineup for the Wildcats were junior Oliva Eliasson and freshman Katherine Gravel-Coursol. Separated by just one stroke, Eliasson and Gravel-Coursol finished the tournament tied for 63rd, and 65th, respectively.
“The more players we get competing for the scoring lineup, the stronger we will be as a team,” Knight said.
Illinois' Stephanie Miller topped the individual standings at a 3-under par 213. The Illini won the team competition by five strokes over Kansas at 35-over par 899.
K-State will be back in action in two weeks, Oct. 27-29, as it heads to Las Vegas, Nev. for the Las Vegas Showdown at the Stallion Mountain Golf Course.
