Kansas City, Mo. -- Two top 25 match-ups highlight week nine for MIAA football.
Missouri Western at Emporia State
In the first of two MIAA Television Games of the Week two top 25 teams will square off as #12 Missouri Western travels to #15 Emporia State. The Hornets are leading the MIAA in both total offense and passing offense entering the week. They are led by MIAA Offensive Athlete of the Week Tyler Eckenrode who is averaging 314 yards per game passing with 18 touchdowns. Shjuan Richardson has 59 catches for 973 yards and nine touchdowns. MIAA Defensive Athlete of the Week Ben Carlson has 72 tackles and three interceptions. Missouri Western enters the week leading the league in rushing offense. They are led by Michael Hill who is averaging 155 yards rushing per game with nine scores. Travis Partridge has 21 passing TD’s and six scores on the ground. David Bass has 30 tackles on defense and 8.5 sacks.
Northeastern State at Southwest Baptist
Northeastern State coming off their first MIAA victory, will travel to Southwest Baptist looking for their second. The RiverHawks are led by Joel Rockmore who is averaging 100 yards per game on the ground with six touchdowns. Johnny Deaton had 1,473 yards passing and six TD passes. On defense Langston Jones leads the team with 71 tackles and Vernon Jones has five picks. Southwest Baptist is led by Dan Connors who is averaging 141 yards passing per game with seven touchdowns. Derwyn Lauderdale has three touchdown catches while Justin Duhaney has two TD’s. On defense they are led by Shaquille Shedd who has 77 tackles and Jameson Manuma who has 68 stops and two interceptions.
Northwest Missouri at Washburn
#5 Northwest Missouri will meet #16 Washburn in a clash of 7-1 teams ranked in the top 20 in Topeka on Saturday. The Bearcats enter the weekend with the league’s best scoring offense and defense. They are led by Trevor Adams who is averaging 192 yards passing per game and has thrown 14 touchdowns. Tyler Shaw has 35 catches for 623 yards and seven touchdowns. On defense DJ Gnader has 54 tackles while Brandon Dixon and Nate DeJong have four interceptions each. The Ichabods enter the weekend second in the league in total defense. On offense they are led by Mitch Buhler who is averaging 193 yards per game through the air with 15 touchdowns. Hayden Groves is averaging 71 yards per game on the ground and has scored six times. On defense Bryce Atagi has 51 tackles including eight for a loss to go along with an interception.
Fort Hays State at South Dakota Mines
Looking to build on their second straight win the Fort Hays State Tigers will travel to Rapid City, S.D. to take on South Dakota School of Mines. The enter the weekend fifth in the league in kick returns and fifth in red zone offense. They are led by Tarean Austin who has eight touchdowns through the air and has scored seven touchdowns on the ground. Cornelius Gallon has 25 catches for 386 yards and four touchdowns. On defense they are led by Layton Hickel who has 68 total tackles and Kedron Paul who has picked off three passes. The Hardrockers are 2-5 on the year and 0-1 against teams from the MIAA.
Pittsburg State at Truman
#22 Pittsburg State will look to bounce back from back to back losses as they travel to Truman in week nine. The Gorillas enter the weekend third in the league in both total offense and total defense. They are led by Anthony Abenoja who is averaging 269 yards per game passing and has 13 touchdowns. John Brown is averaging 111 yards per game receiving with seven scores. On defense Nate Dreiling has 55 tackles and two interceptions. The Bulldogs enter the weekend fourth in the league in interceptions. They are led by Michael Elliot has five picks and Robert Gayden with three interceptions. On offense Conrad Schottel is averaging 211 yards per game passing with 12 touchdowns. Garrett White has rushed for eight touchdowns on the ground.
Nebraska-Kearney at Central Missouri
Nebraska-Kearney will look to build coming off their first win of the season as they travel to Central Missouri. The Lopers are led by Ricky Trinidad who as averaging 110 yards per game in five games back from injury and has scored twice. Justin Drudik has two touchdowns through the air and three touchdowns on the ground. On defense Sam Kuck has 68 tackles and two interceptions. Central Missouri is fourth in the MIAA in passing offense. They are led by Colter Smith who is averaging 274 yards per game passing and has 16 touchdowns. Ronrei Lloyd is averaging 100 yards per game receiving with seven scores. On defense Patrick Lewis has 56 tackles and one interception.
Central Oklahoma at Lincoln
Central Oklahoma will hit the road for Jefferson City, Mo. as they take on Lincoln in week nine. The Bronchos are led by Joshua Birmingham who has seven touchdowns on the ground and an additional one receiving. Adrian Nelson is averaging 191 yards per game passing with six touchdowns. On defense Devoris Dozier has 56 tackles and one interception. Lincoln enters the weekend led by Jacob Morris who is averaging 152 yards per game passing with nine touchdowns. Maurice Woodard is averaging 75 yards per game receiving with six scores. On defense they are led by O’Hara Fluellen who has 54 tackles and three interceptions and Maurkice Savage who has also picked off three passes.
Missouri Southern at LIndenwood
Missouri Southern and Lindenwood will lock horns in week nine as both teams look to bounce back from losses in the MIAA Television Network game of the Week. The Lions enter the game second in the league in passing offense. They are led by Denodus O’ Bryant who is averaging 94 yards per game on the ground with eight touchdowns. Quarterback Ben Gomez is averaging 282 yards per game through the air with 14 scores, but has been injured the last two weeks. The Lions lead the league in rushing defense. They are led by Brandon Williams who has 11 tackles for a loss and 5.5 sacks. Kellen Cox has two touchdowns through the air and 10 touchdowns on the ground.
