KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Defending MIAA Champion Nebraska-Kearney, who went 16-1 in league play last season, has been picked to finish atop the league in the preseason poll released today. UNK, who lost just three overall matches on the season and won the MIAA post-season tournament, picked up eight total first place votes from the coaches.
Central Missouri, who finished 16-2 in the league last year, has been picked to finish second this season. They edge out Washburn, who finished 15-2, by just one point despite the Ichabods receiving three first place votes. Emporia State grabs the fourth place slot in the coaches poll after going 9-8 in league play last year.
Pittsburg State is picked to finish fifth in the league just three points ahead of Northwest Missouri who is picked sixth. Three points also divide NWMSU from seventh place pick Fort Hays State in the poll.
Central Oklahoma has been picked to finish eighth after finishing last season in a three-way tie for seventh place. Lindenwood comes in with the ninth place slot, as picked by the coaches, just three points ahead of Missouri Western who is picked tenth.
Southwest Baptist is picked to finish in 11th place this season with Missouri Southern picked to finish 12th overall.
September 5th will kick off the volleyball season with teams hitting the road for tournament play.
