TOPEKA, Kan. – Three Washburn pitchers combined to allow three hits and a run against Newman and the offense put together a season-high 19 hits in an 11-1 run-rule win Monday evening at Falley Field.

The Ichabods improved to 23-19 as they opened a stretch of eight games in eight days that will wrap up the regular season. They'll continue non-conference action with two games Tuesday at Rockhurst starting at 3 p.m.

Starter Connor Brady pitched out of a two-error jam in the top of the first and then the offense got started with five runs off six hits in the bottom of the inning. Parker Gibson led off with a triple and scored on a single from Corey Gragg. Kyle Carnahan, Tanner Johnson and Wes Jones all had RBI hits after that.

David Gauntt's team-leading seventh home run of the year gave Washburn a 6-0 lead in the second inning before the Jets (19-23) got on the board with a run in the third.

Brady was pulled before the start of the fourth due to injury and Sam Hearnen relieved him. He gave up a hit and kept the Jets scoreless through two innings. Drew Ridley then pitched the final two innings and faced the minimum six batters to be awarded the win (1-0).

The Ichabods put up insurance runs off a two-run single from Payton Soicher in the fifth and an RBI single from Wes Jones and a pinch-hit RBI single from Taylor Herrington in the sixth.

Jones batted 4 for 4 and scored twice. Carnahan was 3 for 4 as he improved his batting average to .413 on the season.

The win evened the season series at a win each as Newman beat Washburn by the run rule earlier in the year in Wichita.
