State Golf Titles Claimed Across Kansas

(WIBW) - State golf titles were handed out around the state Tuesday.

6A - Topeka Country Club
Kale Reynolds of Maize and James Henderson of Blue Valley West both shot 70s. Reynolds emerged the winner in a playoff.

Defending champion Andrew Beckler of Washburn Rural lost his playoff for third place to Shawnee Mission East's Lucas Jones, so Beckler finishes 4th. Junior Blues teammate Patric Ball was 10th with a 77.

Cole Dillon of Manhattan shot a 76 to take 6th.

Shawnee Mission East took the team title with a score of 300. Washburn Rural was eight shots behind in second. Manhattan placed third.

5A - Wichita Country Club
Host school Kapaun-Mount Carmel of Wichita took the team title in 5A golf with a 300, followed by Maize South. Bishop Carroll and St. Thomas Aquinas both shot 314, but a fifth-score tiebreak put Carroll in the higher placing. Seaman finished fifth as a team, a shot back at 315.

Kapaun was paced by individual champ Sam Stevens with a 72. Wichita Heights' Caleb Haight was a shot back at 73.

Among golfers representing Topeka-area schools, Ruger Hummel of Seaman and Mitchell Lummis of Shawnee Heights were both four shots back at 76. After a playoff, Lummis finished ninth while Hummel was tenth.

4A - Firekeeper, Mayetta
It took 12 hours to finish all play in 4A at Firekeeper. When the final putts were sunk, Hayden was the top team with 314. Buhler was second at 329, with Ottawa's 333 good for third.

Marc McClain of Bonner Springs shot 69 for top medalist honors. Ryan Elder of Wamego's 74 was good for fourth, while teammate Parker Waters took ninth with a 76.

Hayden was lead by Brock Falley, who took eighth with a 76. Holton's Ethan Holoday bested the group at 77 to take 14th place.

3A - Cherry Oaks, Cheney
Sabetha placed third in the team standings in the 3A competition. Kevan Herbster led the team with a 77, finishing ninth.

2A - Ft. Hays Municipal Golf Course
Olpe took the team title at the 2A competition in Hays. Grant Pimple shot 77 to lead the team and finish ninth individually.

1A was contest in Garden City. Results were unavailable.
