Ottawa boys hold off Highland Park 4A

SALINA, Kan. (AP) _ Ottawa broke open a tight game with 16 points in the fourth quarter to outlast Topeka's Highland Park Scots 54-45 for the Kansas Class 4A boys' basketball title Saturday in Salina's Bicentennial Center.

The Cyclones were led by Semi Ojeleye with 27 points and 15 rebounds. He was 10 of 17 from the field and four of seven from the free-throw line. Dallas Natt tossed in 12 for Ottawa, which finished the season 25-0.

The Scots (24-1) were led by Jahmal McMurray's 18 points, including four of 13 shooting from the three-point line. Shaffee Carr had nine and Jamon Fulton added 8.

Wamego beats McPherson in Kansas Class 4A girls

SALINA, Kan. (AP) _ Kalyee Page scored 22 and Lanie Page added 20 to lead the Wamego girls to a 60-53 victory over McPherson on Saturday to claim the Kansas Class 4A championship.

Wamego (25-1) used a strong second quarter to build a 25-20 halftime lead. The Red Raiders shot 50 percent from the field for the game, including hitting five of seven in the key second quarter.

McPherson (22-4) was led by a 25-point effort from Katelyn Loecker, who was nine of 18 from the field and hit seven free throws. Janae Barnes had 15 points and 11 rebounds for McPherson.

Burlington girls win Kansas Class 3A title<

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) _ Burlington built a 13-point halftime lead and cruised to the finish line, defeating Garden Plain 52-42 Saturday to win the Kansas Class 3A girls title and cap an undefeated season.

Haley Gilman led the way for Burlington (25-0) with 14 points, making five of six shots from the field. Breanna Bluma had 12 points, while Jaquelyn O'Connor added 11 and had eight rebounds.

Garden Plain finishes 24-2. They were led with 13 points from Cassidy Haukap and 12 from Alli Heimmerman. Cadence Bourne had nine rebounds for Garden Plain.

Smith Center girls claim Kan. Class 2A title<

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) _ Smith Center withstood a comeback attempt by defending champion Jefferson County North Chargers on Saturday to win the Kansas Class 2A girls title 63-55 at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan.

Smith Center (24-2) built a nine-point lead before the Jefferson County North tied the game at 42 early in the fourth. The Chargers took a brief one-point lead at 47-46 before Smith Center came roaring back behind 25 points from Sydney Benoit and 23 from Alexis Ryan. Benoit also had 10 rebounds on the night.

Jefferson County North (23-4) was led by 18 points from Jacee Kramer and Jamie Navinskey with 17.

Republic County boys down Meade for Kan. 2A title<

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) _ Republic County outlasted No. 1 seed Meade in overtime Saturday to win the Kansas Class 2A boys title 64-53 in Manhattan's Bramlege Coliseum.

The Buffaloes (25-0) trailed by six points late in the fourth quarter before a layup from Trevor Allen at the buzzer sent the game into overtime knotted at 48.

Trenton Kuhlman led Republic County with 30 points, while Allen finished with 21.

Meade (24-1) was led by 15 points from Jett Little, 12 from Trevin Weins and 11 from Morgan Davis.

Hoxie girls hold off Olpe, win Kan. 1A- DI crown<

EMPORIA, Kan. (AP) _ Hoxie held off a late charge in the fourth quarter to beat Olpe 68-63 in the Kansas Class 1A-Division 1 championship Saturday.

The game matched a pair of unbeaten squads, both entering the title game with a perfect 25-0 record.

Hoxie raced to an 18-point lead in the first quarter and held a 31-25 lead at the break. Hoxie was up 53-39 in the third before Olpe charged back with 24 in the final quarter.

Hoxie was led by Carly Heim with 21, Danel Stithem with 15, Lexi Schamberger who had 13, and Gabriel Spresser with 12.

Olpe was led by 21 from Elena Flott, 14 from Janae Haag and 11 from Kelsey Hendricks.

Axtell downs Fowler in Kan. 1A-2 title game<

HAYS, Kan. (AP) _ Axtell turned in a strong second half to power past Fowler 65-56 Saturday for the Kansas Class 1A-Division II boys' championship in Hays.

Fowler (25-1) was the top seed in the tournament and trailed by one at halftime but couldn't keep pace in the second half.

Axtell was the No. 7 seed and was led by 26 points from Aaron Schmelzle and 23 from Payton Heinen, who also had nine rebounds. Axtell hit 19 of 29 free throws.

Fowler was led by Joel Milford's 15 pints and 10 rebounds. Ty Clark added 12 and Taylin Bird had 11.
