(October 21, 2013) - Sporting Kansas City enters the final week of the team's 2013 regular season with two major matches on the schedule. On Wednesday, Sporting KC hosts Honduran club C.D. Olimpia in the CONCACAF Champions League group stage finale needing a draw or win to advance to the quarterfinal round of the tournament. Then on Saturday, Manager Peter Vermes' squad can put the team in position to win the Supporters' Shield and clinch the No. 1 overall seed in the MLS Cup Playoffs with a victory at Philadelphia.
The club will train at 10 a.m. CT on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at the Sporting Club Training Center in Swope Park (6310 Lewis Rd., Kansas City, MO). Following Tuesday's training, Vermes and a Sporting KC players will participate in the team's weekly press conference at 12 p.m. CT at the training facility. All media are encouraged to attend for photo, video and interview opportunities.
Sporting Park welcomes C.D. Olimpia on Wednesday in the fourth and final group stage match for Sporting Kansas City in the 2013-14 CONCACAF Champions League. Sporting Kansas City sits atop Group 2 with a 2-0-1 record, including a 2-0 victory at C.D. Olimpia in August. A limited number of tickets for the match are available to purchase online at Ticketmaster.com and the match will be nationally broadcast on FOX Soccer Plus and Univision Deportes 2.
Saturday's MLS regular season finale comes in the same venue where Sporting Kansas City's season started as the club takes on the Philadelphia Union at PPL Park live on the NBC Sports Network. A win would push Sporting KC atop the Eastern Conference and Supporters' Shield tables by a two-point margin over New York, who host Chicago on Sunday.
Tonight, Aurelien Collin and Teal Bunbury will make a special appearance at the Kick Out Cancer Challenge at the Park Hill District Soccer Complex. The varsity soccer teams from Park Hill and Park Hill South will play at 7 p.m. CT and a fundraiser, including a silent auction, will be held for The Victory Project in the name of Nicholas Hibbeler and Kim Toigo.
