Orlando, Fla (WIBW) __ In a radio interview on Tuesday afternoon, Sporting Kansas City CEO Robb Heineman addressed the growth of soccer in Kansas City, including the increase in value of Sporting Club.
When asked by Kevin Keitzman of 810 WHB, Heineman said that the club has gone up in value between 10 and 15 times since his group, OnGoal, purchased the team from the Hunt family in 2006.
The purchase price of the team (then the Wizards) was approximately $20 million dollars. That means that Heineman estimates the current value of Sporting Club between $200-$300 million, including Sporting Park.
That estimation, however, is significantly higher than the latest Forbes estimate from November, 2013. The money magazine said that SKC is worth $108 million, putting it in the 9th spot among MLS teams.
Sporting KC won it's 2nd MLS Cup last season, beating Real Salt Lake in the championship on December 7th, 2013.
