TECUMSEH, Kan. (WIBW) - Skill, dedication and experience are one thing, but Coach Steve Giddens says his Shawnee Heights softball team has something else - togetherness.
"I have never had a team come together better than this one," Giddens said, adding they genuinely like each other and are supportive of one another.
The Lady Thunderbirds return a lot of experience from last year's state qualifying team, in particular pitching. Giddens says they'll have a tough test in their opening game against Wichita - Bishop Carroll, but senior outfielder Bailey Schmidt says they are up for the test. When their pitching is on and they get their hits down, she says, "I think we're capable of anything."
Heights is seeded seventh in 5A, where the top seed is undefeated Seaman.
