Lawrence, Kan. – Seniors Monica Engelman, Angel Goodrich, and Carolyn Davis combined to score 62 of the Jayhawks 81 points in their 81-71 victory over No. 22/19 Oklahoma, Sunday in Allen Fieldhouse.

The senior based attack displayed Davis recording her third-straight double-double and fourth of the season, scoring 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Engelman continued her shooting brigade pouring in another 21 points. As for Goodrich, she put up a double-double of her own while competing in her 100th career game as a Jayhawk. During the game Angle recorded 17 points and dished out 10 assists, good enough to pass Lisa Braddy as the Kansas all-time assist leader with 687 career assists.

The Sooners were led by Aaryn Ellenberg who scored 21 points, 16 of which came in the second half. Joanna McFarland added a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds.

KU had to tame a rally by the Sooners late in the second half as Oklahoma went on an 18-6 run to cut a 19 point deficit to only seven. The Jayhawks answered with a 6-0 run of their own pushing the lead back to 66-53 with 4:35 remaining.

Oklahoma again cut the lead to only seven with just under two minutes remaining in the game. The Sooners used fouls to stretch the game late allowing for Goodrich, Engelman and Chelsea Gardner each to make two clutch free throws to put any hopes of an Oklahoma comeback to rest.

Gardner contributed to the Jayhawks victory as she put in 10 points of her own and grabbed nine rebounds as part of the Jayhawks 46 points in the paint.

The victory puts the Jayhawks at 17-8 on the season and 7-6 in Big 12 play. It also marked the first win against Oklahoma at home in 14 seasons with the last triumph at home against the Sooners in 1999.

Both teams struggled in the opening minutes as KU went 1-for-5 from the field with three turnovers while Oklahoma went 1-for-10 with two turnovers. Following their early slump, Davis hit a jumper to start a 17-2 KU run as the Jayhawks shot 50 percent from the field during that stretch. The two teams spent the final seven minutes of the half trading baskets as the Jayhawks took a 34 to 22 lead into halftime.

Up Next: The Jayhawks will travel to Austin, Texas, on Wednesday February 17 for their second meeting of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Frank Erwin Center.
