Santa Fe Trail Chargers
Carbondale, Kan.(WIBW)-- The Santa Fe Trail Chargers may have posted a 1-8 record a year ago but one key play here or there could have made the season quite different.
The Chargers lost several close games a year ago to Big Seven League opponents in 2013.
Fourth year coach Jayson Duncan returns 16 starters and will have experience on his side and a new Pioneer League Conference.
Santa Fe Trail players and coaches feel this is the year things turnaround for the chargers.
Coach Duncan said, "This is our year and we have talked about having the biggest turnaround in the state."
Senior QB Weston Gloss believes in his teammates as well, saying,"We have all bought in to what's happening, so that's a big part of it and we have all been practicing together for 3 years so this is our time to shine."
Senior Linebacker Derric Cashier believes all the hard work will pay off in 2014. "We have our program built up where we want it now and we've been training and practicing all summer and not just with the coaches but by ourselves," said Cashier.
"Our fans are going to see some wins this year," said Senior Runningback Cody Vandervord. "We have great fans and they've been there in the cold when we have come up short, but they are going to have something to cheer about."
The Chargers open the season at home against Iola, September 5.
