TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Brett Sterbach rushed for 273 yards to lead Shawnee Mission West to a 19-14 win over Hutchinson High School in Kansas' Class 6A state championship game Saturday.
The Vikings (12-1) got off to an early lead after Sterbach ran 75 yards for a touchdown. But after West missed the extra kick and Colby Turner of Hutchinson High (10-3) scored twice off 3- and 1-yard runs, the Salthawks led 14-6 at halftime.
The Vikings (12-1) then gained 13 points in the third quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run from Anthony Verdini and a 19-yard run from Andre Maloney.
Dakota Brower led Hutchinson High in rushing with 93 yards. The Vikings outrushed the Salthawks 367 yards 244 yards.
