PERRY, Kan. (WIBW-TV) -- Perry-Lecompton baseball's first-ever trip to state is reason for the whole community to celebrate.

The Kaws struck up the band for a pep rally Wednesday. The community saluted the baseball team, as well as their track and field athletes who are headed to state competition and state-qualifying golfer, Jacob Morgison.

In baseball, Perry is the top seed in 4A-II. Coach Kent Houk credits a group of seniors who've stuck with their goal. He says it has been a body of work that keeps building and to see it come to fruition is exciting for the school, the community and the players.

Senior Drew Scrimsher says some of team members have played together since first grade and have built chemistry that makes them know everyone will do their job.

The Kaws loaded up and hit the road for Pratt after Wednesday's sendoff. They open play Thursday against Goodland.
