MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State volleyball’s Kaitlynn Pelger was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending November 3, the conference announced.
The award is Pelger’s second Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honor this season – second in the last three weeks – and third weekly award overall. The senior was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week on October 21 and Defensive Player of the Week on September 23. It is the first time in Pelger’s career she has earned more than two Big 12 Player of the Week nods in a season.
Pelger led the Big 12 in kills per set (5.67), aces per set (0.67) and points per set (7.00) over the week, helping the Wildcats sweep No. 25 Oklahoma in their only match. The senior had 17 kills on a .481 hitting percentage – both match-highs – as well as tallying two aces against the Sooners. In addition to kills, aces and points, Pelger finished in the top 10 in the conference in hitting percentage (4th) and blocks per set (T-6th with 1.33).
The middle blocker’s 17 kills are also tied for the most in a Big 12 three-set match this season. Pelger has 15 or more kills in three of her last five matches and is sixth in conference-only matches with 3.53 kills per set.
With the addition of this week’s honor, Pelger has garnered eight Big 12 Player of the Week awards in her career, the most in program history. The two-time All-America Honorable Mention has been named Offensive Player of the Week six times while being tabbed Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week once each.
The award is also the fourth time this season a Wildcat has been recognized by the Big 12 for a performance over a week. Redshirt freshman Katie Brand was named Big 12 Rookie of the Week on September 16. The four Big 12 Player of the Week awards for K-State are the most in a single season since 2008 when five Wildcats were honored. Under head coach Suzie Fritz, the Wildcats have earned a conference weekly award 31 times since 2001.
Pelger and the Wildcats (15-7, 3-6 Big 12) head to Lubbock, Texas to take on Texas Tech for their next match on Wednesday, November 6. First serve is at 6 pm.
