JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The No. 24-ranked Washburn Ichabods used a 19-0 run midway through the second half and turned an early deficit into a 76-53 win over the Lincoln Blue Tigers. Washburn snapped a two-game losing streak in the win over the Blue Tigers and won its 23-straight game over Lincoln. Washburn returns to action on Saturday at new MIAA foe Lindenwood in St. Charles, Mo.
Washburn (11-4, 4-3 MIAA) was up seven at 49-42 with 11:59 left in the game before back-to-back dunks by Joseph Smith jump started the big run ending with a free throw by Will McNeill with 5:48 to play putting the game out of reach. The Ichabods held the Blue Tigers (3-16, 2-7 MIAA) to 7 of 27 shooting in second half while the Ichabods heated up to 61 percent hitting 20 of 33 shots in the frame.
In the first half, the Ichabods and the Blue Tigers were knotted at 32 after the Blue Tigers came out on fire hitting 7 of their first 9 3-pointers building a 13-point lead in the first half at 19-6.
McNeill led the Ichabods with 17 points on 8 of 10 shooting from the field adding a career-high seven assists coming off six assists in the Ichabods' last game at Northeastern State. He led four Ichabods in double figure scoring followed by Bobby Chipman and his fourth double double of his Washburn career with 14 points and 11 rebounds going a perfect 7 of 7 from the field while adding two blocks. Martin Mitchell had 12 points and Smith finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Cedric Ridle led the Blue Tigers with 21 points and five rebounds.
Washburn shot 57 percent from the field in the game hitting 25 of 44 attempts from the field while dominating on the glass 43 to 20.
Washburn had 12 offensive rebounds leading to 10 second chance points. Washburn's bench also outscored the Blue Tiger reserves 18 to 5. Lincoln was 19 of 54 from the field in the game finishing 10 of 30 from the field from 3-point range after starting 7 of 9 from deep.
