FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The three-point shooting of Angel Goodrich and Tania Jackson wasn’t enough, as Arkansas’ stingy post defense stifled the Jayhawks in a 64-56 loss at Bud Walton Arena Thursday night.

With the loss, the Jayhawks’ season-opening seven-game win streak came to an end, while Arkansas improved to 8-1 on the season.

Chelsea Gardner’s baseline jumper on the left side erased the nine-point halftime deficit, as Kansas took its first lead in the second half, 43-42. The two teams traded the game’s next four baskets, but when Goodrich was whistled for an offensive charge it marked her fourth foul and sent her to the bench with 6:41 remaining.

With Goodrich out of the game, Arkansas rattled off a quick 10-0 run and led 54-45 with 4:55 left in the game. Head coach Bonnie Henrickson was forced to get Goodrich back in the game, but behind 11 second-half points from Quistelle Williams Arkansas built too big of a cushion. Williams led Arkansas with 15 points.

Goodrich led all scorers with 21 points, her highest scoring effort of the season, and Jackson finished with 11 points as the only Kansas players in double figures.

The Jayhawks used the three-point shot effectively early in the first half to build a 16-11 advantage, behind a pair of threes from both Goodrich and Jackson. However the combination of being outrebounded by 10 and 11 first-half turnovers eventually caught up with the Jayhawks, as Arkansas used runs of 10-0 and 10-2 to build a 33-24 halftime lead. It marked only the second time this season that KU trailed at the intermission, and this was the largest deficit of the season.

Kansas will be back in action Sunday at Allen Fieldhouse, when the Jayhawks host Newman for a 2 p.m.
