SPOKANE, Mo. (AP) _ Officials at a small high school in
southwestern Missouri say a member of the boys' basketball team has
died after collapsing following a morning practice.
Spokane (spoh-KAYN') High School curriculum director Robyn
Gordon identifies the student as 17-year-old Forrest Robert Varney.
Gordon tells the Springfield News-Leader
(http://sgfnow.co/xmPhVt ) that Varney collapsed in the school gym
around 7 a.m. Wednesday. He was given CPR before an ambulance took
him to a hospital, where he died.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
Administrators said Varney was a good student and well-liked
among the roughly 200 students at the school.
Spokane is located in Christian County, about 25 miles south of
Springfield.
