Head coach Ron McHenry announced Friday that four Kansas high school seniors have signed national letters of intent this week to attend Washburn next year and play basketball for the Lady Blues.

Three of the four come from the Wichita area, including Jharian Bowen and Jayda Lynch from defending 6A state champions Wichita Heights High School. Alyxis Bowens signed from Derby High School and Johna McClelland signed from Garden City High School.

McHenry is adding height as McClelland is listed as a center at 6-3 and Bowens is 6-2 as a forward. Bowen, a guard/forward combo, is 5-11 and Lynch is 5-9 and will look to start her career as a point guard.

The four make up his class from the early signing period as he will look to replace seven seniors on this year's team. The Lady Blues started the year with a win last Wednesday and will play Drury Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Lee Arena.

Jharian Bowen • 5-11 • G/F • Wichita, Kan. • Wichita Heights HS
McHenry says: Jharian is an all-around skilled player with excellent range with her outside jumper. She plays at a great pace, has a great feel for the game and can play inside or out. She comes from excellent high school and AAU programs and should contribute early in her career here.

Alyxis Bowens • 6-2 • F • Derby, Kan. • Derby High School
McHenry says: Alyxis is a long athlete that has a tremendous upside. She's a hard worker and a kid that will develop in a great player. She's very aggressive and can run and rebound with anybody.

Johna McClelland • 6-3 • C • Holcomb, Kan. • Garden City HS
McHenry says: Johna is a very skilled post player. She runs the floor well and has good perimeter skills with the ability to step out and shoot it from 3 range. She'll need to get used to the physicality of the college game but should be a factor early in her career.

Jayda Lynch • 5-9 • G • Wichita, Kan. • Wichita Heights HS
McHenry says: Jayda is a very athletic guard and she's versatile in the number of positions she can play. We will look to play her at point guard early in her career. She can really lock down as a defender and she comes from outstanding high school and AAU programs.
