KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Seven players apiece from MIAA Co-Champions Central Missouri and Washburn headline the 2011 All-MIAA Volleyball Team, released Thursday by the conference office. The selections were made by the league's 10 head coaches, and coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players.

Central Missouri outside hitter Allie Huffman was named the MIAA Player of the Year after leading the league in kills with 404, averaging 3.96 kills per set. The senior from Lee’s Summit, Mo., was also a unanimous selection for All-MIAA First Team.

Emporia State setter Katie Deutschmann was voted the MIAA Freshman of the Year after a season in which she led all league setters with 270 kills, averaging 2.55 kills per set. The Ballwin, Mo., native was also named All-MIAA Second Team.

Washburn head coach Chris Herron was selected as the MIAA Coach of the Year for the fourth time after leading the Lady Blues to a 17-1 league record (30-2 overall) and a share of the conference title for the second consecutive season. It is WU’s fourth overall MIAA Championship.

Emporia State, Fort Hays State and Truman had five all-conference selections each, followed by Missouri Western, Pittsburg State and Southwest Baptist with four each, Northwest Missouri with two and Missouri Southern with one.

Central Missouri is set to host the NCAA South Central Regional Thursday through Saturday as the No. 1 seed. The Jennies will take on No. 8 seed Abilene Christian in the first round Thursday at 7:30 p.m. CT, while No. 2 seed Washburn will face No. 7 seed Arkansas Tech Thursday at 2:30 p.m. CT.
