MIAA Volleyball Pushes Towards Bottom Half Of Schedule

Kansas City, Mo. -- The MIAA Volleyball teams will push their way towards the bottom half of the schedule as they roll into week eight.

Upcoming MIAA Previews:
#3 Washburn returns home
Oct. 19: #3 WU vs. NWMSU 7 p.m.
Oct. 20: #3 WU vs. MWSU 2 p.m.
Washburn will return home after defeating #7 Central Missouri on the road. They open week eight against Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western. They enter the week leading the league in hitting percentage. They are led by MIAA Hitter of the Week Jessica Fey who is averaging 3.41 kills per set on the season while hitting .414 on the attack. She is joined by Jessica Kopp who is averaging 2.88 kills per set and Hillary Hughes who averages 2.69 kills per set on the year. Abby Wittman is averaging 9.20 assists per set while Courtney Churchman is averaging a team best 3.67 digs per set.

#7 Central Missouri readies for slower week
Oct. 17: #7 UCM vs. ESU 7 p.m.
#7 Central Missouri will look to rebound from a five set loss to #3 Washburn as they face just Emporia State in week eight. They enter the week third in the league in hitting percentage and kills per set. They are led by Bradye Peniston who is averaging 3.28 kills per set and hitting a team best .360 for the year. Julia Bates has twice been named MIAA Specialist of the Week and is averaging 10.36 assists per set. Annie Reilly is leading the team defensively averaging 4.81 digs per set.

#5 Nebraska-Kearney looks to bounce back
Oct. 16: #5 UNK at MWSU 7 p.m.
Oct. 19: #5 UNK at SBU 1 p.m. & #5 UNK vs. Alabama-Huntsville 4 p.m.
Oct. 20: #5 UNK at MSSU 6:30 p.m.
#5 Nebraska-Kearney will look to rebound from a week where they lost in consecutive matches as they hit the road. They enter the weekend leading the league in kills and assists. They are led by Ariel Krolikowski who is averaging 3.43 kills per set and Katie Sokolowski who is averaging 2.93 per set. Jenna Rouzee is averaging 10.75 assists per set and Liz McGowan averages 4.45 digs per set.

Emporia State travels to #7 Central Missouri
Oct. 17: ESU at #7 UCM 7 p.m.
Oct. 20: ESU vs. NWMSU 3 p.m.
Emporia State will look to add to a six match winning streak as they roll into week eight of the season. They enter the weekend third in the MIAA in blocks, assists and opponent hitting percentage. They are led by Brianna Kaiser who is averaging 2.65 kills per set and Paige Vanderpool who is averaging 2.44 per set. Meg Schwartz is averaging 5.00 digs per set and Katie Deutschmann is averaging 6.18 assists per set.

#20 Turman looks to preserve nine match winning streak
Oct. 16: #20 TSU at Missouri S&T 7 p.m.
Oct. 19: #20 TSU vs. PSU 7 p.m.
Oct. 20: #20 TSU vs. LWU 7 p.m.
Truman will put a nine match winning streak on the line as they enter week eight. The Bulldogs enter the week second in the MIAA in digs. They are led by Allie Brak who is averaging 3.68 kills per set and Megan Sharpe who is averaging 3.21 per set. MIAA Specialist of the Week Meghan Zimmerman averages 10.18 assists per set and Abby Moser is averaging 4.38 digs per set.

Central Oklahoma looks to push streak to five straight
Oct. 16: UCO vs. SBU 7 p.m.
Oct. 19: UCO at LWU 7 p.m. & Oct. 20: UCO at TSU 7 p.m.
Central Oklahoma will look to build on a four match winning streak as they hit the road for eastern Missouri. They enter the week leading the league in blocks. They are led by Morgan Roy who is averaging 3.73 kills per set and Faith Harmon who is averaging 8.59 assists per set. Tate Hardaker is averaging 4.93 digs per set on the year.

Fort Hays State looks to bounce back
Oct. 16: FHSU vs. York 5:30 p.m. & 7 p.m.
Oct. 19: FHSU at MSSU 6 p.m. & Oct. 20: FHSU at SBU 4 p.m.
Fort Hays State will look to bounce back from back to back losses as they head into week eight. They enter the week second in the MIAA in blocks. They are led by Jenna Ulrich who is hitting .331 and averaging 2.73 kills per set and 1.19 blocks per set. Kayla Zogelman is averaging 9.73 assists and Makenzie Weinman 4.39 digs per set.

Lindenwood faces two on home floor
Oct. 19: LWU vs. UCO 7 p.m.
Oct. 20: LWU vs. PSU 7 p.m.
Lindenwood went 1-1 in last week’s play and will face UCO and PSU at home to open week eight. They enter the weekend fifth in the league in digs. They are led by Kelsey Kennedy who is averaging 2.62 kills and Erin Anselman who is averaging 2.52 per set. Emma Brydels averages 9.96 assists per set and Kaila Schrimpf 4.68 digs per set.

Missouri Southern continues hunt for first MIAA victory
Oct. 19: MSSU vs. FHSU 6 p.m.
Oct. 20: MSSU vs. #5 UNK 6:30 p.m.
The Lions will continue their search for their first MIAA win as they face FHSU and #5 UNK in week eight. They are led by Katie Politte who is averaging 2.75 kills per set. Abby Finder is leading the way averaging 6.93 assists per set and Sydney Potts is averaging 2.77 digs per set.

Missouri Western on the road and then at home
Oct. 16: MWSU vs. #5 UNK 7 p.m.
Oct. 20: MWSU at #3 WU 2 p.m.
Missouri Western will open a week eight stretch that will put them up against two of the four ranked teams in the MIAA. They are led by Jessie Thorup who is averaging 2.26 kills per set. Stephanie Hattey is averaging 6.31 assists per set and Sarah Faubel is averaging 3.51 digs per set.

NWMSU faces #3 Washburn
Oct. 19: NWMSU at #3 WU 7 p.m.
Oct. 20: NWMSU at ESU 3 p.m.
The Northwest Missouri State Bearcats will face yet another ranked MIAA squad in #3 Washburn. They are led going into the weekend by Brooke Bartosh who is averaging 3.20 kills per set. Dallas Gardner is averaging 6.78 assists and Tori Beckman leads the league at 5.53 digs per set.

Pittsburg State halfway through road trip
Oct. 19: PSU at TSU 7 p.m.
Oct. 20: PSU at LWU 7 p.m.
Pittsburg State sits square in the middle of a five match road trip at TSU and LWU. They are led by Crystal Whitten with 2.49 kills per set and Brooke Fay who is averaging 2.46 kills per set. Becca Pearson is leading the team with 6.56 assists per set and Nicole Rockhold is averaging 3.09 digs per set.

Southwest Baptist preps for full week
Oct. 16: SBU at UCO 7 p.m.
Oct. 19: SBU vs. #5 UNK 1 p.m. & SBU vs. Ala.-Huntsville 7 p.m.
Oct. 20: SBU vs. FHSU 4 p.m.
Southwest Baptist will face a packed week with four matches including one against #5 UNK. They are led by Jordan Nedbalek with 2.13 kills per set and Carrie Johnson with 2.11 per set. Whitney Miller averages 5.42 assists per set.
