MIAA Volleyball Digs Back Into League Play

Kansas City, Mo. -- After spending last week playing outside the league, week seven will see the teams get back into league play.

Upcoming MIAA Previews:
#4 Washburn travels to #7 Central Missouri
Oct. 9: #4 WU vs. MSSU 7 p.m.
Oct. 12: #4 WU at SBU 7 p.m.
Oct. 13: #4 WU at #7 UCM 7 p.m.
#4 Washburn will look to build on their four game winning streak as they set up for a weekend match-up with #7 Central Missouri. Entering the week they are averaging 14.03 kills per set as a team hitting .257 on the year. They are led by Jessica Fey who enters the week averaging 3.25 kills per set with a .397 hitting percentage. Jessica Kopp is averaging 2.92 kills per set while Hillary Hughes is averaging 2.77 kills per set. Abby Wittman is averaging 9.05 assists per set and Courtney Churchman leads the team averaging 3.65 digs per set.

#7 Central Missouri preps for seventh top 25 match-up
Oct. 10: #7 UCM vs. NWMSU 7 p.m.
Oct. 13: #7 UCM vs. #4 WU 7 p.m.
#7 Central Missouri will prep for their seventh match-up with a ranked team when #4 Washburn comes to town in week seven. Entering the week they are averaging 13.8 kills per set and 12.6 assists per set while hitting .243 on the year. They are led by Bradye Peniston who is averaging 3.39 kills per set while hitting .377 on the season. Julia Bates won her third MIAA Specialist of the Week award and is averaing 10.17 assists per set. On defense Annie Rielly is averaging 4.76 digs per contest.

#1 Nebraska-Kearney trys to remain undefeated
Oct. 10: #1 UNK at Wayne State 7:00 p.m.
Oct. 12: #1 UNK vs. TSU 6 p.m.
Oct. 13: #1 UNK vs. LWU 4 p.m.
Nebraska-Kearney takes their undefeated record on the road before hosting two MIAA games to close out week seven. They are led by Ariel Krolikowski who is averaging 3.55 kills per set and Jenna Rouzee with 11.14 assists per set. Kaleigh Anderson is leading the team defensively averaging 5.52 digs per set.

Emporia State hits the road in week seven
Oct. 12: ESU at MSSU 7 p.m.
Oct. 13: ESU at SBU 2 p.m.
Emporia State takes a four match winning streak into their return to MIAA play against Missouri Southern and Southwest Baptist. They enter the week averaging 13.7 kills per set and a league leading 2.18 blocks per set. They are led by Brianna Kaiser who is averaging 2.68 kills per set while Katie Deutschmann leads the team with 6.17 assists per set. Meg Schwartz is averaging 4.86 digs and Courtney Haring is averaging 1.35 blocks per set on defense for ESU.

Truman travels to #1 Nebraska-Kearney
Oct. 12: TSU at #1 UNK 6 p.m.
Oct. 13: TSU at FHSU 3 p.m.
Truman will continue their road trip the winnners of seven straight games as they travel to #1 Nebraska-Kearney. They are led by MIAA Hitter of the Week Allie Brak who is averaging 3.69 kills per set and Megan Sharpe who is averaging 3.17 kills per set while hitting .375 on the year. Meghan Zimmerman is averaging 9.99 assists per set and Abby Moser is averaging 4.29 digs per set.

Central Oklahoma goes on the road for three straight
Oct. 9: UCO at SEOSU 7 p.m.
Oct. 12: UCO at NWMSU 7 p.m.
Oct. 13: UCO at MWSU 7 p.m.
Central Oklahoma will hit the road for three straight matches highlighted by MIAA contests at NWMSU and MWSU. They are averaging 11.1 kills per set heading into the week led by Morgan Roy who is averaging 3.59 per set. Faith Harmon is averaging 8.31 assists per set and Tate Hardaker is leading the team with 4.98 digs per set.

Fort Hays State home for the week
Oct. 9: FHSU vs. MWSU 7 p.m.
Oct. 12: FHSU vs. LWU 7 p.m.
Oct. 13: FHSU vs. TSU 3 p.m.
Fort Hays State enters week seven having won 10 of their last 11 matches and welcoming a hot Truman team to town on Oct. 13. They are led by Jenna Ulrich who is averaging 2.70 kills per set and 3.42 points per set. Kayla Zogleman is averaging 9.68 assists per set and Makenzie Weinman leads the team defensively at 4.49 digs per set.

Lindenwood hits the road for #1
Oct. 12: LWU at FHSU 7 p.m.
Oct. 13: LWU at #1 UNK 4 p.m.
The Lions have won six of their last seven matches as they head into a weekend that features a match-up with #1 Nebraska-Kearney. Entering the weekend they are led by Kelsey Kennedy who is averaging 2.67 kills per set and Erin Anselman who is averaging 2.66 per set. Emma Brydels is averaging 10.05 assists per set and Kaila Schrimpf 4.71 digs per set.

Missouri Southern continues hunt for first MIAA victory
Oct. 9: MSSU at #4 WU 7 p.m.
Oct. 12: MSSU vs. ESU 7 p.m.
Missouri Southern will hit the road for Washburn and host Emporia State in search of their first victory. Entering the week they are led by Katie Politte who is averaging 2.80 kills per set. Abby Finder leads the team with a 7.25 assists per set average and Sydney Potts is averaging 3.00 digs per set.

Missouri Western on the road and then at home
Oct. 9: MWSU at FHSU 7 p.m.
Oct. 13: MWSU vs. UCO 7 p.m.
Missouri Western will split their week between going on the road against FHSU and a home date against UCO. They are led by Jessie Thorup who is averaging 2.24 kills per set. Stephanie Hattey is averaging 2.14 kills per set and 6.22 assists per set. Sarah Faubel leads the team with 3.67 digs per set.

NWMSU faces big week of MIAA play
Oct. 10: NWMSU at #7 UCM 7 p.m.
Oct. 12: NWMSU vs. UCO 7 p.m.
Oct. 14: NWMSU vs. PSU 2 p.m.
Northwest Missouri will face off with three MIAA opponents in week number seven. Brooke Bartosh is leading the team with 3.06 kills per set. Dallas Gardner is leading the team with an average of 6.68 assists per set.

Pittsburg State faces #8 UCM in non-league contest
Oct. 10: PSU vs. Drury 7 p.m.
Oct. 14: PSU at NWMSU 2 p.m.
Pittsburg State will look to rebound from a three match losing streak as the face Drury and Northwest Missouri. Entering the week they are led by Leah Flynn who is averaging 2.59 kills per set and Brooke Fay who is hitting .315 on the year. Nicole Rockhold is averaging 3.03 digs per set.

Southwest Baptist welcomes Turnpike Tusslers
Oct. 12: SBU vs. #4 WU 7 p.m.
Oct. 13: SBU vs. ESU 2 p.m.
Having won four of their last five match-ups, SBU will look to build on that as they face #4 WU and ESU. Entering the weekend they are led by Jordan Nedbalek who is averaging 2.17 kills per set and Whitney Miller with 5.51 assists per set. Defensively Kaitlyn Allison is averaging 4.18 digs per set.
