MIAA Baseball Tournament Set After First Weekend

Kansas City, Mo. – The field is set for the MIAA Baseball Championships to continue in Kansas City after the final day of the on campus series’ wrapped up.

Missouri Western 12, Fort Hays State 10
Missouri Western answered a huge Fort Hays State sixth inning with five runs of their own and piled on two more in the eighth to punch their ticket to Kansas City.

For the Griffons Michael Schulze went three for five with three runs scored. Bubba Dotson was one for four with two runs scored and two driven in. Kyle Simpson went three for five with two RBI. Spencer Shockley was three for four with five runs driven in. On the mound Mason Queen earned the win pitching 3.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

For the Tigers Ryan Busboom had a grand slam finishing the game with four RBI. Kelton Rule was one for four with two runs driven in. Sam Thornton went one for four with two runs driven in as well.

Missouri Western will face Central Oklahoma on May 9 at 11 a.m. from CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan.

Pittsburg State 9, Central Missouri 7 (10 Innings)
Pittsburg State needed extra baseball, but they upset second seeded Central Missouri to earn a trip to Kansas City.

For the Gorillas Ryan Bilovesky was three for two for five with two runs scored and two runs driven in. Austin Lastimado went two for five and drove in two runs. Luke Bordewick was two for three with two runs scored. Ryan McKay pitched the final 2.2 innings to pick up the victory.

For the Mules Barrett Noirfallse was two for four with a home run, two runs scored and two runs driven in. John Oropeza scored two runs while Trevor Jones and Jon Cotter each drove in two runs.

Pittsburg State will face Missouri Southern on May 9 at 2:30 p.m. from CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan.

Missouri Southern 6, Northeastern State 5
Missouri Southern used a five run fourth inning and held off a Northeastern State comeback to force a game three with a 6-5 win.

For the Lions Dallas Burke was two for four with three runs driven in. Nick Doughty scored two runs and Will Wagner and Michael McCoy each went three for four. On the mound Ryan Bates earned the win going eight inning allowing just one earned run and striking out seven.

For the RiverHawks Trent Wilkins went three for three with a runs scored. Chad Davidson was three for five on the day and Kyle Singleton hit a three run home run.

Missouri Southern 5, Northeastern State 3
Missouri Southern used two runs in the third and two more in the sixth to earn a spot in the Kansas City portion of the MIAA Baseball Tournament.

For the Lions Thomas Wilson was two for three with two runs driven in and a run scored. Tee Helsel went two for three and scored two runs. Dallas Burke added two runs driven in. On the mound Payton Walker threw a complete game allowing just two earned runs and four hits.

For the RiverHawks Trent Wilkins was one for four with two runs driven in. David Weber drove in the other NSU run.

Missouri Southern will face Pittsburg State on May 9 at 2:30 p.m. from CommunityAmerica in Kansas City, Kan.
