Lindenwood Sweeps Ichabods To Open Series

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Ichabods were swept 12-3 and 7-2 Saturday afternoon as the two teams opened a three-game series at Falley Field. The two teams will play again Sunday at noon in Washburn's home finale and the four seniors will be honored prior to the game with Senior Day.

Washburn fell to 9-33 and 8-32 in the MIAA.

Parker Gibson went 5 for 8 with two RBI in the two games and Taylor Herrington was 4 for 7 with a pair of runs.

Herrington singled with two outs in the seventh inning of game one and then Gibson hit his fourth home run of the year. Herrington also scored in the third when he singled, worked his way to third and then scored on a groundout by Riley Price.

The Lions (23-22, 21-16 MIAA) scored nine runs in the first two innings and their starter, Dylan Terrell went all seven innings and allowed just seven hits.

Taylor Gentry was pulled from the game in the second inning after giving up the first seven runs of the game. He fell to 3-2 on the year as he struck out two and walked five.

Drew Ridley started the second game and went six innings as he took the loss (1-7). He allowed six runs off 10 hits with a strikeout and three walks.

The Ichabods were down 7-0 in the seventh inning when they led off the inning with three straight singles. The Lion defense then a double play with the first out at home plate and Washburn only got one run in the inning. Price drove in Matt Jackson and Washburn left the bases loaded after that.

Kyle Carnahan doubled to lead off the eighth and he scored on a single from Jackson.
