November 14, 2013-Laura Patrick had 20 points, 14 rebounds and four assists to lead #5 Emporia State to a 68-59 road win over Newman on Thursday night in Wichita.
In a game of runs, the Lady Hornets jumped out to a 13-2 lead to open the game before the Jets answered with a 12-0 run to take a 14-13 lead with 9:04 left in the first half. An 11-0 run gave the Lady Hornets the lead back at 26-17 with 2:11 left in the opening period. Newman would score the final six points of the half to send the teams to the locker rooms with Emporia State leading 26-23.
A 10-2 run in the second half gave the Jets their final lead at 41-40 with 11:18 left in the game before a Rheanna Egli old fashioned three-point play gave the Lady Hornets the lead for good. Emporia State hit eight of ten free throws in the final 1:21 to seal the win with Haley Parker going six of eight.
Patrick was joined in double figures by Kionna Kellogg with 16 points while Amber Vandiver added 11 rebounds.
Emporia State is back in action on Monday night when they play host to Tabor. Tip-off for the Lady Hornets home opener from Slaymaker Court in White Auditorium is set for 5:30 p.m.
