MANHATTAN, Kan. – After going 8-for-16 with six RBI last week, Kansas State senior outfielder Tanner Witt has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. It was the first career weekly honor for Witt and the first by a Wildcat this season.

Witt led K-State to four wins last week, including a three-game sweep of perennial NCAA Regional participant Bethune-Cookman. The Hawthorn Woods, Ill., product registered a double and scored four runs while working three walks and being hit by a pitch. Witt, who recorded three multi-hit games and a .500 on-base percentage during the week, also registered four sacrifice flies to push his season total to a Big 12-leading six.

On Tuesday against Minnesota, Witt went 2-for-4 with a RBI and tallied his fourth save of the year the next day by successfully working around a leadoff double in the ninth inning. Witt also recorded two hits and drove in a pair of runs in the first game against Bethune-Cookman and followed that with a season-high tying three hits in the second game of the series.

During the week, Witt raised his season batting average by 40 points and is now tied for first in the Big 12 with four saves.

In 24 games this season, Witt holds a .309 (29-for-94) batting average with two doubles and 14 RBI. Aside from leading the Big 12, his six sacrifice flies are tied for seventh in school history as he his halfway to the school and conference record of 12 set by Jason King in 2011.

Kansas State returns to action Tuesday by hosting Nebraska in a 6:30 p.m., contest at Tointon Family Stadium. A pregame tailgate on the southwest lawn area of the stadium grounds begins at 5:30 p.m., while the contest also serves as Social Media Night.

Fans can purchase tickets online at www.k-statesports.com/tickets, by phone at 1-800-221-CATS or at the Tointon Family Stadium box office beginning 60 minutes prior to first pitch.

The game will be shown to a national audience on Fox College Sports, while listeners in the Manhattan area can hear the game on SportsRadio 1350 KMAN. Free live audio is also available online at both www.k-statesports.com and www.1350kman.com.
