Hill Named 2013 ABCA Midwest Region Coach of the Year

MANHATTAN, Kan. – For the second time in his career, K-State baseball head coach Brad Hill was named American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Diamond Midwest Region Coach of the Year. In addition to 2013, Hill was named the ABCA Midwest Region Coach of the Year in 2009.

This year’s ABCA honor adds to Hill receiving the 2013 Big 12 Coach of the Year award in May. Hill and the Wildcats won the Big 12 title after going 45-19 overall and 16-8 in conference play.

Hill piloted the Wildcats to a school-record 45 wins, en route to capturing the program’s first conference championship in 80 years. Hill also led K-State to host its first Regional and make its first ever trip to the Super Regional round. K-State recorded 16 wins in the Big 12 – also a school-record – and was tops in the conference in several statistical categories, including batting average, runs scored, hits and stolen bases.

Hill is not the only Wildcat to be recognized by the ABCA for notable performances in 2013. Ross Kivett was tabbed to the ABCA All-American Second Team, one of the second baseman’s three All-American nods from different organizations last season. Kivett was also named to the ABCA Midwest All-Region First Team, while Jared King was named to the All-Region Second Team.

K-State was No. 14 in the final ABCA/USA Today Top 25 Poll of the 2013 season.

The eight ABCA Regional Coach of the Year honors and National Coach of the Year award are selected by a committee of college coaches representing each region. Monmouth head coach Dean Ehehalt, from the ABCA’s East Region, chairs the committee.

K-State baseball is currently in the midst of Fall Camp, preparing for its Big 12 conference title defense in 2014. The upcoming season’s schedule and information about 2014 season tickets will be available at a later date.
