NERVIANO, Italy – On the strength of a 12-0 run and vise tight defense to close out the third quarter, Kansas State defeated the Italy All-Stars, 69-46, on Sunday evening in its first of three games in Italy.

K-State was paced by junior Haley Texada with 17 points, while adding three rebounds and three assists. Sophomore Bri Craig tallied 16 points, including four connections from beyond the arc, while carding five rebounds and an assist.

Playing by the international rules of FIBA, the Wildcats trailed just once in the game, as the Italy All-Stars captured a 19-18 lead early in the second quarter. K-State bounced back, as Texada scored nine of her 14 first half points in the frame to push K-State in front at the half, 34-29.

After the Italy All-Stars climbed to within two, 38-36, with under five minutes to play in the third quarter, Kansas State closed the quarter with a 12-0 run to take a commanding 50-36 lead into the final period. K-State used a balanced scoring effort in the third quarter, as five Wildcats registered a basket in the frame led by four points each from freshman Breanna Lewis and senior Katya Leick.

Lewis, in her first career action as a Wildcat, finished with four points and nine rebounds. Leick, also seeing her first career action as a Wildcat after transferring from Nebraska in 2011 and suffering an ACL injury in 2012, notched eight points and eight rebounds.

In the final quarter, K-State would build its advantage to 24 points, 64-40 with four minutes to play, on Craig’s fourth 3-pointer of the game. Redshirt freshman Kelly Thomson, also seeing her first action in a K-State uniform following an ACL tear in 2012, paced K-State in the fourth period with seven points.

Kansas State will return to action on Monday at 1:30 p.m. (CT), as the Wildcats will face the Vicenza All Star in Vicenza, Italy.
