LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Kansas football started Saturday morning off with a party of sorts. Through the second annual Hannah and Friends Football Clinic with Charlie Weis and the Kansas Football Team, the Jayhawks were able to run, pass, catch and kick with participants from Special Olympics and Inclusion Connection.
In addition to the action on the field, the KU football players and staff members not only put smiles on the faces of the participants, but they had a great time themselves.
"This was my first time being a part of a clinic like this," said senior wide receiver Nick Harwell. "I was not exactly sure what to expect, but I cannot even describe how much fun I had today. I can tell the participants had a great time, and I was right there with them."
The day began with a group huddle where Kansas head coach Charlie Weis explained what the clinic would entail. He then let KU director of football strength and conditioning, Scott Holsopple, lead the participants in some stretching.
Once everyone was warmed up and ready to go, the participants paired up with the KU players by position group and worked their way through 10 different stations honing various football skills.
"The majority of the time we spend on the football field we have to be dialed in and focused on the task at hand," said senior safety Cassius Sendish. "Today was different. We got to let loose a little and turn our attention towards making sure the participants had the best time possible. It was all about them and seeing them have fun playing the game we love."
After spending just under two hours at the clinic, the Jayhawks returned to Memorial Stadium to take part in their 12th practice of the 2014 spring season. Under perfectly sunny skies and with temperatures in the mid-60s, KU practiced for just over two hours working on individual drills and team drills before scrimmaging for the latter part of practice.
KU will host its annual Spring Game Saturday, April 12. Kickoff is at 1 p.m., in Memorial Stadium and admission is free. Several exciting events will surround the game and a complete schedule can be found at Spring Game Central.
