TOPEKA, Kan. -- The No. 2-ranked Washburn Ichabods picked up an 85-51 over the Bethany Swedes in Lee Arena on Monday night and will have a quick turn around as they will face Rockhurst in the Sprint Center at 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon in Kansas City.
Washburn led the entire way as they opened the game with a 21-9 run over the first 7:42 of the game going on to lead by as many as 19 in the first half at 44-25 with 55 seconds left in the opening stanza. The Ichabods forced 14 first half turnovers leading to 16 points as they went on to take a 44-27 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, the Ichabods held the Swedes to only eight field goals as Bethany was 8 of 36 from the field including 3 of 14 from 3-point range as Washburn pushed out to a 35 point lead with 3:07 to play in the game. Washburn was 43 percent from the field hitting 15 of 35 shots in the second half.
All 10 Ichabods in the lineup scored as Martin Mitchell tied a career-high with 18 points and set a new high with six rebounds. Mitchell led four Ichabods in double figures as Zack Riggins and Will McNeill scored 12 each and Bobby Chipman and Kyle Wiggins each scored 10. Alex North had a game-high eight rebounds with six offensive boards. Trey Beachum had 10 to lead the Swedes as the only Bethany player to reach double digits.
Washburn had a 51 to 39 edge on the glass with 21 coming on the offensive end leading to 26 second chance points. Overall the Swedes had 20 turnovers while the Ichabods committed 10.
