The Ichabods jumped two spots to 13th in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association national poll released Monday afternoon. Washburn swept Fort Hays State last Friday and took out then-No. 5 Nebraska-Kearney in five sets Saturday to lead to the improvement.
The win Saturday was Washburn's first over a top five team since defeating No. 1 Tampa in the 2007 NCAA national quarterfinal hosted by Washburn. The Ichabods had lost the previous six matches against top five opponents.
Washburn (15-3, 5-0 MIAA) earned its 127th straight AVCA ranking, a streak that dates back to the start of the 2004 season.
UNK fell to eighth while Central Missouri stayed put at No. 4 with three first place votes. Concordia St. Paul got the remainder of the top votes and is No. 1 in the country. The Central Region makes up six of the top 13 teams in the nation.
The Ichabods will head to Joplin, Mo., this weekend for four matches. They will start Thursday at 7 p.m. against Missouri Southern and then will play a match Friday and two Saturday in the MSSU Invitational.
