April 11, 2014- The Emporia State baseball team moved their winning streak to four games, with the last four all coming by at least 12 runs, with a double header sweep of Lincoln on Friday evening at the Trusler Sports Complex. The Hornets won game one 19-3 and took game two 20-3.
Emporia State got a single run in the bottom of the second and then exploded for six runs in the second and five in the third before Lincoln got on the board. After the Blue Tigers scored once in the fourth, the Hornets put three more up in the bottom of the inning and then went up 19-1 with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Lincoln managed to get two runs in the top of the seventh for the final 19-3 score.
Justin Harris went three for four with four RBI and three runs with a triple and a double. The Hornets got home runs from Price Jacobs, Aaron Gile and and three run homer from Tory Bell. Shawn Talkington went 5.0 innings and allowed one run on three hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Cory Sager worked the final 2.0 innings.
The Hornets only scored in three innings in the nightcap but they were all big innings. They put up four runs in the first inning then got seven in the fourth thanks in large part to a grand slam homer by Dean Long. Emporia State sent 15 batters to the plate in the bottom of the fourth beginning with back to back home runs by Tory Bell nad Todd Schultz. They ended the inning with nine runs on nine hits and left the bases loaded. The Blue Tigers managed a single run in the fifth and two in the sixth for the final score of 20-3.
Long was two for five with five RBI including the grand slam while Shultz went three for four with three RBI and three runs scored. Jarrod Miller got the win going 5.0 inning with one run on three hits while striking out six.
The Hornets and Blue Tigers will wrap up their four game series on Saturday with another double header. First pitch of game one is set for 2:00 p.m. at Glennen Field in the Trusler Sports Complex.
