TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- In 2013 the Hayden Wildcats made tremendous strides to get back into the playoffs and this year they should be in the mix to win the Centennial League.

Head Coach Bill Arnold and his Wildcats finished the 2013 season 7-5 which included a thrilling overtime playoff victory against Maize South.

Hayden returns 13 starters from a team that went 2-1 in district play. They return multi-sport athlete Jacob Head at Quarterback and a pair of talented Linebackers in Derrick Mcgreevy and Brooks Peavler.

A split in class 4A has pushed Hayden into 4A-Division I, with former 5A powerhouse Bishop Miege, but the Wildcats aren't backing down.

Coach Arnold loves his teams grit, saying, "The thing I like about them is that they have a never die attitude and they do not like to lose."

"Our first goal, first and foremost, is to win the Centennial League, then District and then win State," said Senior Running Back Alex Ziegler.

Senior Linebacker Derrick McGreevy said, "We want to win State every year and carry on the tradition that the people before us left and just do the best we can."

Hayden opens up the season against Seaman at home, September 5.
