Washburn jumped to a 6-2 lead after two kills from Cox and an ace from Hughes. The Griffons then scored four straight and eight of the next 10 to go up 9-8.

There were four ties after that before the Griffons built their lead to 15-12. Kills from Jessica Kopp and Cox then got Washburn within a point and another 2-0 run later tied it. Fey then tied and gave Washburn a one-point lead with two straight kills and a sneak attack from Petersen gave Washburn a 19-17 lead.

The Griffons pulled within one twice after that, including at 22-21, but two MWSU service errors got Washburn to match point and Lewis set down the final kill for a win.

The Lady Blues jumped to 8-2 and 10-3 leads in the third set and the Griffons never got closer than three points away as Washburn went on the clinch the match. A 5-1 run finished it.
