TOPEKA, Kan. – Jessica Fey recorded her 1,000th kill in No. 4 Washburn's 3-2 win over Harding Saturday and then she had eight more in a sweep over Southern Nazarene as her team went 4-0 in the Lady Blues Fall Classic presented by The Topeka Capitol Plaza Hotel.

Washburn (18-1) will remain at home and host Missouri Southern Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Lee Arena as the two teams resume MIAA play.

Fey's fifth kill against Harding made her the 17th Lady Blue to reach 1,000 in a career after teammate Hillary Hughes achieved the feat Friday. She ended the Harding match with 12 and had eight against Southern Nazarene to give her 1,015 in her career. She also pushed her career block total to 297 and she'll need three more to become the ninth Lady Blue to reach 1,000 kills and 300 blocks.

The Lady Blues took the first set against Harding 25-20 and then the Bison got the second set 25-23. The Lady Blues led 23-19 in the third set and then survived a 4-0 Harding run to win 25-23.

The Lady Blues tied the fourth set at 23-23 with a kill from Fey before Harding got to set point. The teams traded points three times before Harding scored two straight to win the fourth set 27-25 and force Washburn's second five set match this year.

The Lady Blues left little doubt in the fifth set as they raced to a 7-2 lead. Lewis had two straight kills and then broke up a pair of Harding kills with her third kill of the set. Three straight Bison attack errors helped Washburn end the set on a 7-0 run and win 15-4 to clinch the match.

Lewis led Washburn with 15 kills in the Harding match. Hughes added 14 and 14 digs for a double-double and Jessica Kopp had 13 kills. Kopp and Lewis made the all-tournament team and Fey, who had 12 kills against HU, was named MVP.

Marissa Cox had 10 kills and she set down a career-high nine blocks. The Lady Blues blocked 14 Harding attacks with Fey getting four of them.

Kopp led Washburn with 11 kills against Southern Nazarene and Hughes and Courtney Churchman led with eight digs each. Abby Wittman had 27 assists.

Fey hit .520 in the Fall Classic and averaged 3.14 kills per set.

The Lady Blues improved to 28-0 in the seventh straight year they've hosted their yearly tournament. Truman and Emporia State also went 4-0 this year and the MIAA won 17 of the 20 matches while the Great American Conference won three times in the regional crossover.
