Emporia State Wins Kanza Bowl

Kansas City, Mo. – Emporia State was out gained 559 yards to 313 but took advantage of five turnovers to pull out a 45-38 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville in the Kanza Bowl. The Hornets had only 13 first downs but had five scoring drives under 50 yards in the game.

For ESU senior quarterback Tyler Eckenrode was 25 of 32 for 303 yards and five touchdowns. Shjuan Richardson caught six passes for 193 yards and two scores and Adam Schiltz caught eight passes for 65 yards and three touchdowns. Ray Ray Davis caught a touchdown pass and also threw for one in the Hornet victory. On defense Jordan Sanders led the team with 15 tackles and an interception. Chris Poston had 11 tackles and a pick while Kevin Gaddis picked off a pass and added nine stops.

The Hornets close out the season with a 10-2 record and take the MIAA post-season record to 4-1 overall with Missouri Western still in the NCAA Playoffs and Lindenwood still to play in the Mineral Water Bowl.
