November 6, 2012 – Courtney Haring had 14 kills and hit .458 as the Emporia State volleyball team swept Fort Hays State 25-18, 25-16, 25-18 at White Auditorium in Emporia, Kan.
Haring also led Emporia State with four blocks, two solo. Paige Vanderpool earned a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs. Meg Schwartz led the Hornets with 28 digs. Katie Deutschmann nearly achieved a triple-double with nine kills, nine digs, and 25 assists.
As a team, Emporia State hit .315 for the match while holding Fort Hays to a .115 hitting percentage. The Hornets held a 70-49 advantage in digs and a 54-29 advantage in assists.
Emporia State trailed only once the entire match, which occurred in the first set. The Hornets never trailed in set two or three.
Seven of Haring’s 14 kills came in set one, as did eight of Schwartz’s 28 digs.
In set two, Emporia State held Fort Hays to seven kills, and a .000 hitting percentage.
Taylor Mares led the Tigers with seven kills.
Emporia State’s record improves to 18-10, 8-7 MIAA. Fort Hays State’s record is now 23-12, 7-9 MIAA.
Emporia State is in action on Friday when it hosts #13 Truman. First serve from White Auditorium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
