Emporia State Volleyball Defeated By Fort Hays State In Four Sets

September 29, 2012- The Emporia State volleyball team got 12 kills from Paige Vanderpool and 20 digs from Meg Schwartz as the Hornets fell 25-23, 25-18, 18-25, 25-20 loss to Fort Hays State in Hays, Kan. Emporia State record is now 9-6, 3-3 MIAA, Fort Hays State is now 13-6, 3-3 MIAA.

Brianna Kaiser had eight kills, 16 digs for the Hornets while Morgan Buckner, Katie Deutschmann, and Courtney Haring chipped in with six kills apiece. Haring led Emporia State with seven total blocks (one solo, six block assists). Deutschmann was the primary facilitator for the Hornets' offense, assisting on 36 kills.

The Tigers' Jenna Ulrich lead all players with 18 kills.

Set two was hotly contested with 11 tie scores and seven lead changes. Fort Hays State took control of the set with four straight points with the scores tied at 14-14.

The Hornets won the fourth set 25-18 and hit a match-high .308 with 17 kills from 39 attempts and five hitting errors. Emporia State closed the set on a 7-1 run, as three of Buckner's six kills occurred during the rally.

Emporia State plays in the Lady Blues Classic at Lee Arena in Topeka, Kan. from Oct. 5-6. The Hornets open the tournament against Southeastern Oklahoma State at 9:30 a.m. followed by a match versus East Central on Oct. 5.
