October 20, 2012 - The Emporia State volleyball team's return to White Auditorium ended with a 20-25, 25-19, 27-25, 25-20 win over Northwest Missouri in Emporia, Kan.
Carly Spicer and Raney Okeson co-led the Hornets with 11 kills, while Hunter Porter and Paige Vanderpool also added eight kills. Spicer made the most of her attacks, hitting .611 for the match (11-for-18, zero errors).
Courtney Haring was a part of each of the Hornets' eight total blocks. Meg Schwartz posted 28 digs to lead all players, while Vanderpool also registered in double digits with 17 digs.
The match was closely contested as Northwest Missouri came out to capture the first set 25-20, as the first set saw only two lead changes, hitting .270 while holding Emporia State to a .122 hitting percentage.
Emporia State adjusted well and were able to capitalize on the 12 service errors committed by Northwest Missouri.
With the win, Emporia State improves to 16-7, 6-4 MIAA and 3-0 at home this season. Northwest Missouri State falls to 11-12, 5-6 MIAA.
The Hornets face #3 Washburn in the second edition of the Turnpike Tussle at White Auditorium on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
