November 10, 2012 - The Emporia State volleyball team concluded its regular season with a 23-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-14 win over Lindenwood on Senior Night at White Auditorium in Emporia, Kan.
Senior libero Meg Schwartz recorded 31 digs to lead all players. Carly Spicer and Paige Vanderpool shared the team lead with 14 kills. Spicer also the Hornets with four total blocks, one solo while Vanderpool chipped in 22 digs. Katie Deutschmann and Sydney Hartman notched 28 and 26 assists respectively running the Emporia State offense.
As a team, the Hornets limited the Lady Lions to .105 hitting for the match. In the three sets won by Emporia State, the Lady Lions hit .023, .070, and .073. Emporia State hit .265 for the match, including a match-high .389 in the fourth set.
In addition to Schwartz, three other seniors were recognized.
Raney Okeson posted eight kills and a block for the Hornets.
Kaitlin Stearns was used primarily as a serve specialist and recorded two digs.
Caitlyn Murray came on to record one kill while playing two sets.
After dropping the first set, the Hornets never trailed in the second set or the fourth set. In the third set, Emporia State went on a 9-0 run leading 14-11 to take control of the set.
With the win, Emporia State improved to 19-11, 9-8 MIAA. Lindenwood fell to 15-17, 5-13 MIAA.
The Hornets earned the fifth seed in the MIAA Tournament and will face fourth-seeded Truman on Tuesday. The two teams played Friday in Emporia with #13 Truman emerging with a five set victory. First serve from Pershing Arena in Kirksville is set for 7:00 p.m.
