April 26, 2013 - Emporia State qualified two relays for the finals on Friday at the 104th running of the Drake Relays. The Hornets had a pair of provisional qualifiers for the NCAA National Championships as well.
The women’s 1600m relay team of Marqueita Marisette, Peyton Weiss, Lindsay Kunkel, and Jackie Jacobs turned in the tenth fastest time by a Division II school this year to qualify for Saturday’s finals. They were clocked in 3:47.20 for the fifth best time in the prelims.
The men’s 400m relay team of Derwin Hall, Vincent Howze, Andrew Etheridge, and Shjuan Richardson ran 41.53 to advance to Saturday’s finals with the seventh best time in the prelims.
Donald Wilcox went 24-01.50 (7.35m) to finish tenth with an NCAA provisional qualifier. He is now ranked 11th in the nation in Division II and second in the MIAA this season.
Friday’s qualifiers for the finals will be joined on Saturday by Briar Ploude in the men’s high jump and the shuttle hurdle relay.
