Emporia State Softball Places 3 On Daktronics All-Region Team

May 10, 2013-Three Emporia State softball players earned Daktronics All-Central Region honors as voted on by sports information directors from the MIAA, Northern Sun and Great American Conferences. All three players are set to return next year for the Hornets.

Taylor Zordel added second-team All-Region to her first-team All-MIAA and NFCA All-Region honors at shortstop. The sophomore from Topeka, Kan. leads the MIAA in hits and is ranked second in the league in runs scored and stolen bases, is third in doubles, triples and assists, is fifth in batting average and ninth in on-base percentage. She is 34th in the nation in runs scored and 50th in stolen bases. She was named MIAA Hitter of the Week on April 2 of this year. She was a second-team All-MIAA performer as a freshman and was named Academic All-District earlier this season.

Cacy Williams earned her third second-team honor at designated player. She was the MIAA Freshman of the Year and earned second-team All-MIAA and NFCA All-Region honors at designated player. The Platte City, Mo. native leads MIAA with 18 doubles, is ranked fourth in slugging percentage, fifth in RBI, eighth in hits, and tenth in batting average. She is ranked 34th in the nation in doubles per game.

Tricia Vogel was named second-team All-Region as a non-pitching utility player after earing first-team All-MIAA honors in the same capacity. A junior from Clearwater, Kan., she led the MIAA in sacrifice flies and getting hit by pitch, was ranked fourth in RBI, and fifth in doubles. She is just the second Hornet to have over 50 RBI in back to back seasons. She is 24th in the nation in sac flies and 72nd in RBI per game. She was a first-team NFCA and second-team Daktronics All-South Central Region pick last year at first base.

The Hornets ended their season 38-20 after advancing to the NCAA Tournament for MIAA record tenth straight year. Emporia State has recorded at least 35 wins in each of the last 11 seasons.
