Emporia State returns to Emporia to take on Drury in the first regular season Hornet game scheduled for the Emporia HS Pitch. Emporia State is playing at EHS due to problems with a resurfacing of the ESU Pitch.
LAST TIME OUT
Emporia State broke into the win column with a 1-0 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State on rainy Sunday in St. Charles, Mo. Tommi Bouknight gave the Hornets the win with an unassisted goal in the 83rd minute. The Hornets dominated the match getting 27 shots with 11 on goal while the Rangers were not credited with a single shot.
Bryan Sailer is 8-22-7 in his third season at Emporia State. He is 5-6-4 in non-conference action after going 4-2 outside the MIAA last season. Prior to coming to ESU he led Barton County Community College to a 59-23-2 overall record in four seasons. He led them to the KJCAA Championships during the 2008 season and was named Jayhawk Conference Coach of the Year after guiding Barton to an 18-4 record. He is 1-0-0 against Drury.
Alf Bilbao is 75-49-16 in his eighth season at Drury. He is 1-1-0 against Emporia State.
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
The Hornets are 1-1-0 on the season after splitting two games in St. Charles, Mo. over the weekend. They have outshot their opponents 34-13 in the two games and have yet to allow a second half goal.
KNOW THE FOE
Drury is 1-1 on the season after splitting with Harding and Abilene Christian over the weekend. The Panthers defeated Harding 3-1 and lost to ACU 2-1 in double overtime. Four different players have scored on the season.
LAST TIME VS. DRURY
Elizabeth High scored a goal and set up another as the Emporia State soccer team earned a 3-1 win over Drury in Springfield, Mo. Emporia State was on the board after just eight minutes when Mallory Walden found High in the middle of the Drury penalty area, where she scored from eight yards out. High assisted on Tommi Bouknight goal in the 22nd minute. The Hornets extended their lead when Jordan Foutch found Mindi Lozenski in the 51st minute, who found the back of the net to give Emporia State a 3-0 advantage.
This is the third meeting between Emporia State and Drury. The series is tied 1-1-0 with the first two meetings coming in Springfield, Mo.
Emporia State is back on the road this weekend when they travel to Denver, Colo. The Hornets will play Regis on Friday and Metro State on Sunday.
