December 30, 2012- The Emporia State Lady Hornets had a season high 56 rebounds and a season low 11 turnovers on the way to a 72-43 win over Central Methodist (Mo.) on Sunday night at White Auditorium. The Eagles were ranked #25 in the NAIA Division I entering the game.
The Lady Hornets jumped out to a 12-3 lead at the 15:45 mark with scores from all five starters. The lead would remain between seven and ten points until Emporia State went up 23-12 with 5:18 left in the half. The Lady Hornets would close the opening period on a 10-3 run to take a 37-19 lead into the lockerrooms.
Emporia State's lead hovered between 16 and 22 points for most of the second half. The Lady Hornets held the Eagles scoreless for the final 5:55 of action and ended the game on an 11-0 run.
Jocelyn Cummings was a perfect six of six from the field for 14 points and added six rebounds and five assists for the Lady Hornets. She was joined in double figures by Laura Patrick and Merissa Quick with ten points each and three other Lady Hornets scored eight points. Desiree Wylie had a team high 14 rebounds and Rheanna Egli matched Cummings with five assists.
The Lady Hornets will play their final non-conference game of the season when they travel to #6 Washburn on Wednesday. Tip-off for the first non-MIAA regular season Turnpike Tussle since 1990-91 is set for 5:30 p.m. in Lee Arena.
The 56 rebounds were the most in a game by the Lady Hornets since they pulled down 56 against Northwest Missouri on Jan. 22, 2012.
The 39 point spread was the largest for the Lady Hornets since an 84-39 win at West Florida on November 26, 2011
