January 8, 2013-The Emporia State men battled back from a 20 point deficit midway through the first half, but could not complete the comeback in a 65-60 loss at Southwest Baptist on Tuesday night.
The Bearcats scored the first ten points of the game and the Hornets trailed 29-9 with 8:59 left in the half. Emporia State ended the half on a 10-0 run with Paul Bunch scoring the final four points in the last 52.5 seconds to pull the Hornets within 37-29 at the break.
They would score the first four points of the second half to extend the run to 14-0 and pull within 37-33 with 18:42 left in the game. They would cut the lead to three points on three occassions in the second half but could not take the lead.
Bunch led Emporia State with a career high 23 points and 13 rebounds. Chris Sights added 14 points and Terrence Moore scored ten for the Hornets.
Emporia State is back in action on Saturday, January 12 at Truman. Tip-off from Pershing Arena in Kirksville, Mo. is set for 3:00 p.m.
Emporia State outscored Southwest Baptist 49-45 from the field, the 11th time in 12 games the Hornets have outscored their opponents from the field.
Southwest Baptist was the first team with a losing record Emporia State played this year.
