Attached are the game notes for Emporia State men's basketball team against Central Missouri. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Multipurpose Building in Warrensburg, Mo.
STAYING ON THE ROAD
Emporia State continues its road warrior ways with a trip to Central Missouri. Including exhibitions, the Hornets will play nine of their first 11 games away from White Auditorium with just one neutral site game.
Shaun Vandiver is 13-21 in his second season at Emporia State. A first round draft pick by the Golden State Warriors in 1991 spent ten years as an assistant coach at the NCAA Division I level. As a player he was a key component in Hutchinson CC’s tournament run to the 1988 NJCAA National Championship before earning first-team All-Big 8 honors at Colorado. He is 1-1 against Central Missouri.
Kim Anderson is 226-84 in his 11th season at Central Missouri. He is 13-9 against Emporia State in his career.
LAST TIME OUT
Northeastern State went 16 for 16 from the free throw line in the second half to secure a 63-56 victory over Emporia State in Dobbins Field House on Wednesday night. Chris Sights scored a career high 25 points to lead the Hornets. Taylor Euler added 11 points for Emporia State.
SCOUTING EMPORIA STATE
The Hornets are 4-3 on the season after playing five of their first seven on the road. Emporia State is third in the MIAA in field goal percentage defense, holding their opponents to just .378 shooting on the year. Chris Sights has been on fire the last three games averaging 21.0 points on .606 shooting from the field.
SCOUTING CENTRAL MISSOURI
The Mules are 4-2 on the season and 0-1 in the MIAA after falling 77-72 at Ft. Hays State. They have played three of their first six games at home and only one game on an opponent’s court. Dominique Long is their leading scorer at 13.5 points per game.
This will be the 107th meeting between the two teams with Central Missouri holding a 67-39 overall advantage. The two teams split last year, with the home team winning each game. The Hornets are 4-6 in the Multipurpose building over the last ten meetings.
LAST TIME VS. THE MULES
Emporia State only got to the free throw line 11 times, making eight shots while Central Missouri made 26 of 29 free throws in a 76-61 win by the Mules in Warrensburg. The Hornets led by as many as five points in the first half but UCM outscored ESU 10-4 in the final three minutes to take a 30-26 lead into halftime. The Mules scored the first six points of the second half and the Hornets would not get closer than eight points the rest of the game. Tola Lawal led Emporia State with 15 points on five of eight shooting. Troy Pierce came one rebound shy of a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Chris Sights shot .500 from the three point line adding 12 points to the Hornets total.
Emporia State makes their third appearance of the season in White Auditorium as they play host to Southwestern on Dec. 15. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
