October 22, 2012- Emporia State is picked to finish tenth in the expanded MIAA Preseason Men’s Basketball Coaches and Media Polls released today. The MIAA has expanded to 15 teams this year with the top 12 teams making the MIAA Tournament. First round games of the tournament will be played on campus before the final eight advance to Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.

The Hornets return two starters form last year’s team that advanced to the MIAA Postseason Tournament for the tenth straight year, joining Central Missouri and Missouri Southern as the only men’s teams to participate in the tournament every year it has been in Kansas City. Coach Shaun Vandiver became the first coach to take his team to the MIAA Tournament in his first season as a head coach since Kim Anderson did it at Central Missouri in 2003.

Chris Sights averaged 10.9 points per game and is the Hornets' leading returning scorer. Sights also shot .427 from three point range and averaged 3.5 rebounds per game last season. Taylor Euler is the other returning starter, who averaged 8.0 ppg and 3.0 assists per game.

The Hornets have a host of newcomers including freshmen Terrence Moore and Micah Swank, who were All-State selections in Kansas, and five transfers.

The Hornets open the exhibition season on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Tulsa. Tip-off from the Reynolds Center in Tulsa, Okla. is set for 3:05 p.m. Emporia State will also play exhibition games at Kansas on Oct. 30 and Kansas State on Nov. 4 before opening the regular season on Nov. 10 at Missouri S&T in Rolla, Mo.
