November 5, 2012-The #19 Emporia State Lady Hornets used a 24-2 run to start the second half and take command in a 79-50 exhibition win over Evangel in White Auditorium on Monday night. Rachel Hanf led four Lady Hornets in double figures with 14 points.
Emporia State jumped out to a 12-2 lead to open the game and led 23-10 with 12:33 left in the half. The Crusaders then went on a 13-1 run to pull within 24-23 at the 8:29 mark. The Lady Hornets maintained a lead until Danielle Latt made an old fashioned three point play with 6.6 seconds left to send Evangel to the locker room with their only lead of the night at 39-38.
The Lady Hornets scored the first five points of the second half before Emily Akins got the Crusaders on the board with 17:02 remaining. Emporia State scored the next 19 points to take control of the game with a 62-41 lead at the 10:55 mark. The lead would not drop below 17 points the rest of the night as the Lady Hornets settled in for the 29 point win.
Hanf was joined in double figures by Laura Patrick and Merissa Quick with 13 points and Rheanna Egli with 12 points. Patrick also had six rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block. Desiree Wylie led Emporia State with eight rebounds and scored nine points with three steals. Haley Parker had a game high five of Emporia State’s 18 assists as all nine players that suited up scored.
The Lady Hornets open the regular season on November 13 against Newman in White Auditorium. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
Senior Jocelyn Cummings missed the game with a doctor’s appointment in Kansas City.
